South Sudanese doctors stand in solidarity with Cuba in the face of US measures

Addis Ababa, February 2, 2026 (Prensa Latina).- South Sudanese doctors trained in Cuba expressed their solidarity today in the face of the United States' threat to impose high tariffs on countries that supply oil to the Caribbean island. In a message sent to the Cuban ambassador to Ethiopia, Meylín Suárez, and obtained by Prensa Latina, South Sudanese doctor Sallah Lasu stated that the “Cuban Revolution is, in essence, a revolution of the people, built by the people and sustained for the people, who deserve respect.”

Lasu emphasized that a sovereign nation should never be threatened for choosing a path that prioritizes human dignity, social welfar, and the common good.

He affirmed that the ongoing and intensified US blockade, including threats against countries that supply energy to Cuba, is inhumane and unjust. Attempts to suffocate a society by denying it fuel and resources are not acts of diplomacy; These are acts of collective punishment against innocent people, he continued.

Such policies, he added, only confirm the moral bankruptcy of aggression disguised as foreign policy.

He urged people not to fear nations that dare to do extraordinary things for humanity, nor to punish revolutionary peoples who place education, health and social equity at the heart of governance.

On the contrary, he concluded, we must learn from them and forge friendships.

Along the same lines, South Sudanese physician Deng David emphasized that Cuba, as a revolutionary nation, stands firm in the face of external pressures and remains a beacon of resilience, justice and dignity.

“Their struggle is not only their own; it is a universal reminder that freedom is never granted, but rather won through sacrifice and unwavering determination,” David stated in his letter to the Cuban diplomatic mission in Ethiopia.

He specified that, in the spirit of bilateral and diplomatic relations, the people of South Sudan recognize the profound solidarity offered by Cuba. "We have received benefits from the Cuban people in education, military training, diplomatic education, and even in the cultural and social spheres," he added.

In his view, these ties of cooperation are not merely exchanges of knowledge, but living testimony to the friendship between two nations that understand the price of independence.

He emphasized that Cuba's revolutionary path and South Sudan's own struggle for liberation are intertwined by shared values: sacrifice, resilience and the pursuit of sovereignty.

Finally, he declared that "this enduring friendship is a testament to the fact that nations born of struggle remain united in solidarity, defending the dignity of their peoples and the right to live in peace."
