Speaker of the House of Representatives of Liberia receives Charge d'Affaires of Cuba.

Monrovia, March 7, 2018-, In the morning of Wednesday, Mr. Bhofal Chambers, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Liberia, received in his office the Chargé d'Affaires of Cuba in Liberia, Yordenis Despaigne Vera. The latter made a visit to the parliamentarian, accompanied by the Second Secretary, Carmen Maury Toledo.

The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, where the head of the lower house expressed his condolences on the death of Commander in Chief Fidel and more recently of his son Fidel Castro Díaz-Balart. He made extensive reference to Cuba's close relations with the African continent, from the presence of combatants in the movements and processes of national liberation in Angola, South Africa and other nations "where Cuba was when no one was" to the current development processes with collaborators in areas such as health, education, agriculture and other sectors. He particularly thanked the Cuban medical aid workers for the eradication of the Ebola epidemic, although he clarified that "the diplomatic ties did not begin then, they already existed and Cuba gave another sign of their solidarity".

The head of the Cuban mission conveyed a message of congratulations from the President of the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba, Esteban Lazo Hernández, to Mr. Chambers for being elected Speaker of the House of Representatives of Liberia. He also thanked the sustained support of Liberia in the struggle of the Cuban people for the definitive lifting of the blockade, both in regional forums such as the African Union Summit or ECOWAS, as in the United Nations. He also commented on the next second stage of the Cuban electoral process that will be a moment of reaffirmation and a new victory for Cuban participatory democracy.

 Dr. Chambers holds a master's and doctorate degree in Law Enforcement from the University of Columbus in the United States. He was elected Representative in 2005 and served as a member of the Committees on Foreign Affairs, National Security, Good Governance and Government Reform and Chairman of the Defense Committee, all within the House of Representatives. (CubaMinrex / EmbaCuba Liberia)
