Toronto, August 9, 2026. The Consulate General of Cuba in Toronto organized a basketball sports day to mark the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, as part of the initiatives to commemorate this significant date for the Cuban people.
The activity was attended by members of the Juan Gualberto Gómez Association of Cubans Resident in Toronto and the Latin American and Caribbean Solidarity Network (LACSN), who joined this initiative together with members of the Cuban community and friends of Cuba.
The sporting event became a space for fraternity, exchange, and healthy interaction, in which sport helped strengthen the bonds among participants and reinforce the ties of friendship and solidarity that unite the Cuban and Latin American communities in Toronto.
Beyond the sporting competition, the event provided an opportunity to pay tribute to the historic figure of Fidel Castro Ruz and, from Toronto, reaffirm the feelings of identity, belonging, and commitment to Cuba that unite Cubans residing in Canada.
The Consulate General of Cuba in Toronto expressed its gratitude to all the participants and organizations that made this initiative possible, highlighting the value of sport as a means of integration, fraternity, and fostering ties between Cuba and its community residing in Canada.
