The staff of the Cuban Embassy in Liberia remembers the victorious entry of the Caravan of Freedom to Havana.

Monrovia, January 8, 2022 - On a day like today, 63 years ago, the triumphal entry of the Rebel Army into Havana took place, led by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

This event was both a goal and a starting point in the history of the Cuban nation, a symbol of the conquest of Cuba's full freedom.

Havana was eagerly awaiting that moment; as the Caravan advanced towards the west, the enthusiasm and expectations grew as well, thousands and thousands of Havana residents wanted to pay a well-deserved tribute to Fidel and to the protagonists of the triumph as it was already happening all over the country.

Ché and Camilo, in compliance with Fidel's express order, had taken over the military camps of La Cabaña and Columbia, respectively, and established in them new methods and mechanisms of order and control; the Provisional Government had been installed in the Presidential Palace days before and had taken decisions of popular benefit, the confrontation with the opposition forces had acquired the character of revolutionary support and the General Revolutionary Strike, called by Fidel, had ceased.

The arrival is apotheosis. From the polygon of the great military fortress, the leader of the Revolution speaks to the people of Cuba. A speech full of definitions, clarifications and principles of what would be the future of the Cuban Revolution.

Today, the popular tradition of paying a well-deserved tribute to the caravaneros of that time is remembered, in them and in the new generational relay, Cuba Lives!
