Vienna, March 19. Cuba’s Ambassador to Austria, Pablo Berti Oliva, welcomed Ms. Sara do A.T. da Costa, a member of the Vienna State Parliament and City Councilor for the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), to the diplomatic mission’s headquarters for a cordial meeting that provided an opportunity to discuss issues of bilateral interest and strengthen ties with that political party.
During the meeting, the Ambassador updated the Austrian leader on the current situation in Cuba, with special emphasis on the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States and its impact on the Cuban people, particularly in sensitive sectors such as public services, health, and education. He also referred to the negative effects this unilateral policy has on the struggle for women’s advancement on the island, an area of special interest to Ms. da Costa, who also serves as Secretary of the SPÖ’s women’s section in Vienna.
The Cuban diplomat reiterated the Embassy’s interest in strengthening institutional ties with the SPÖ and its representatives, within the framework of the historic relations between both political forces and the shared commitment to deepening bilateral dialogue and cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Lisset González López, First Secretary in charge of bilateral affairs at the Embassy, who provided the Councilwoman with details, in particular, on the progress made by women in Cuba and the challenges they face.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of respect and cordiality, and both parties agreed on the importance of continuing to promote opportunities for dialogue that allow for progress on issues of common interest.
