Statement of Cubans in Trinidad and Tobago, demanding the lifting of the US blockade against Cuba.

Port of Spain, October 30, 2022. The US blockade against Cuba is a hostile policy, considered the longest war against a sovereign country that has lasted more than 60 years. The blockade is a system of unilateral sanctions, which represents a brake on the Cuban economy, it is like a dagger in the throat of all Cubans.

For more than six decades, it has severely affected the well-being of the Cuban family, which suffers from shortages exacerbated by the difficulties of accessing goods and services that are either not available to Cuba and its citizens, or the cost of access is onerous.

To cite an example, Between August 2021 and February 2022, the losses caused by the blockade are in the order of 3,806 million dollars. The blockade has limited the acquisition of medical supplies, cytostatics for treating different types of cancer in children, surgical material for cardiovascular surgery, supplies for transplants, orthopedic prostheses, among others. Also during the pandemic, we were denied the acquisition of pulmonary ventilators and medicines for its confrontation.

The blockade limits bank transfers between financial entities and also between natural persons with an extraterritorial nature.

The current Biden administration keeps intact the policy of the previous Republican administration towards Cuba and hypocritically put Cuba back on the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

Due to the foregoing, we will continue to demand that the sanctions that weigh on the Cuban family be lifted, which violate the most basic human rights, those that they claim to defend so much, and yet continue to encourage illegal, insecure and disorderly emigration.

We invite the government of the United States to comply with the demand of 184 countries that have spoken in the UN in favor of its lifting. Cuba is not alone! It has the support of the international community and many anti-imperialist organizations.

The United States insists on the argument that the Blockade is a pretext by the Government of Cuba to justify its mistakes. If they think so, then remove the pretext. What are they afraid of? Perhaps they fear that Cuba will become the most prosperous country in the region.

Why don't they try to get us to work together under the principle of mutual respect and non-interference for the well-being of both countries? Under these circumstances, and as worthy children of the Homeland, we join the firm demand of our People to the Government of the United States that they let us live in Peace and choose our own destiny! That we will continue to defend our sovereignty and the most just and humane project on the face of the earth: the Cuban Revolution! That we will continue to be firm and faithful followers of Fidel's legacy and its historical continuity led by our President Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermudez!

Today more than ever we highlight the validity of the political thought of our Commander in Chief when expressing in the closing speech of the World Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, held at the "Karl Marx" theater on November 25, 1994:

“...The blockade is an economic war against Cuba, an economic war; it is the tenacious, constant persecution of all economic activities of Cuba in any part of the world — the United States works actively, through its diplomatic channels, through its embassies, to pressure any country that wants to trade with Cuba, to pressure to any company that wishes to trade or invest in Cuba, to pressure and punish any ship that transports merchandise to Cuba—; it is the universal war, with that immense power in its favor, against the economy of our country, to the extreme of making individual efforts, even with people, with individuals who try to develop any economic activity in relation to our country. For us, the question of ending the blockade in exchange for political concessions, concessions that correspond to the sovereignty of our country, is unacceptable. It is absolutely unacceptable, it is outrageous, it is irritating, and, really, we would rather perish than give up our sovereignty...”

Long live our Socialist Cuba! Long live Sovereign and Solidarity Cuba!
