The Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity (REDH) denounces recent military threats by Donald Trump’s administration against Cuba, as well as new sanctions that deepen the imperialist blockade. While humanity calls for peace, cooperation and respect for international law, the Trumpista administration responds with the logic of state terrorism: the reinforcement of the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade, and the pursuit of any financial transaction that dares to approach the island. This does not respond to any political logic, but to the coercive action of an imperial power that uses force to try to annul a people’s sovereignty and dignity.
The REDH expresses its fullest support for the Government and people of Cuba, recognizing their inalienable right to self-determination and to build their own destiny without interference. Attempts to subdue the will of an entire country through hunger and economic suffocation are not only immoral, but doomed to failure in the face of the dignity, resilience, and legacy of struggle of its heroes and martyrs.
We urgently call on all intellectuals, academics, artists, the international community, governments, social movements and peoples of the world to speak out and close ranks in support of Cuba. We demand the immediate and unconditional cessation of the criminal and genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade, and the elimination of these new sanctions that violate the UN Charter. Solidarity among peoples will be stronger than the hatred and ambition of the empire. `Cuba is not alone! Long live the dignity of peoples!
