Statement of Solidarity with Cuba from the Association of Friends of Cuba in Malaysia (FOCA) on the 51st Anniversary of Bilateral Relations

The members of the Association of Friends of Cuba in Malaysia (FOCA), meeting in Kuala Lumpur in 2026 on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Cuba, respectfully convey this statement of solidarity to the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

Guided primarily by friendship, and sustained by humanitarian principles and a commitment to social justice, we express our deep concern regarding the continued intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on the Republic of Cuba. This unilateral policy has had far-reaching and detrimental consequences for the full enjoyment of human rights by the Cuban people, disproportionately affecting vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, children, and the elderly.

FOCA stands firmly in solidarity with the Cuban people who face the persistent and unjust hardships that these coercive measures impose on their daily lives. The impact of the blockade, now exacerbated by restrictions affecting access to fuel and other essential resources, has contributed to a marked deterioration in living conditions and has imposed severe constraints on both the national economy and the well-being of Cuban families.

Cuba has consistently demonstrated its unwavering commitment to international solidarity, particularly through its exemplary contributions to global public health, disaster response, and humanitarian cooperation. A nation that has provided assistance to people around the world, often under difficult circumstances, deserves international cooperation, mutual respect, and an end to policies that undermine its sovereign right to development.

In a spirit of solidarity and shared humanity, FOCA also extends its deepest condolences to the people and government of Cuba following the loss of 32 members of the Cuban Special Security Forces while on duty abroad. We honor their service and sacrifice and extend our deepest condolences to their families, colleagues, and the Cuban people during this time of mourning. FOCA calls for a renewed global commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and respect for national sovereignty.

Together with the Cuban people, FOCA reiterates its firm commitment to strengthening friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the peoples of Malaysia and Cuba, and to upholding justice, peace, and international solidarity.
