Street Festival for Cuba strengthens solidarity action in Austria

Vienna, May 31. A new edition of the “Straßenfest”, Street Party for Cuba, took place this Saturday in the vicinity of the headquarters of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG) located on Seisgasse Street in this city.

The activity, a space of solidarity and Cuban culture, was led by the solidarity friends of the ÖKG together with the youth of the Communist Youth (KJÖ), the Cuban Embassy in Austria and a representation of the community of Cubans living in Austria.

In the words of Hermann Pernerstorfer, President of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association, the traditional celebration is intended to unify forces in support of Cuba in the face of the blockade and to raise funds that are then transformed into donations for the island, mainly for the health sector.

With messages against the blockade and the inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, this activity was held for more than 6 hours, which had as its central point the words and tributes to Professor Ali Kohlbacher, founder of the solidarity movements with Cuba in Austria and an outstanding activist in favor of the Cuban Revolution.

The members of the Cuban Embassy, led by the ambassador, thanked the ÖKG and the other participants and encouraged them to continue their solidarity work with the people of the largest of the Antilles.

The activity, held in the street, took place in an enthusiastic atmosphere, with music and dancing, including performances by Cuban residents. More than a hundred young people, friends in solidarity and Cuban residents learned about Cuba and its struggles, as well as enjoyed a pleasant Cuban afternoon in the heart of Vienna.
