A major event demonstrating solidarity with Cuba was held at the headquarters of the Liberian National Students' Union (LINSU), the umbrella organization representing Liberian students. During the event, student leadership engaged in a high-level exchange with the Ambassador of Cuba to Liberia, Dr. Indira López Argüelles.
The Cuban diplomat delivered a comprehensive presentation to the youth regarding the severe impacts of the U.S. economic blockade, the energy siege, and ongoing military threats directed at Cuba. Dr. López Argüelles outlined how these unilateral sanctions directly affect vital social sectors, including education, healthcare, and the full exercise of human rights by the Cuban people.
Additionally, the Ambassador highlighted the academic opportunities available for Liberian students to pursue higher education in Cuba. She expressed her deep gratitude for the solidarity voiced by the attendees and acknowledged their presentations on how younger generations of Africans view the enduring thought and legacy of Fidel Castro.
The President of LINSU, James Washington, remarked that the organization boasts a membership of one million students, many of whom followed the event digitally. On behalf of the union, Washington emphasized that Cuba was specifically chosen for this exchange because it stands as a global benchmark in transforming healthcare and education for its citizens.
Furthermore, the student leader extended his best wishes and personal prosperity to all Cuban children and youth. He manifested his absolute confidence that Cuba will overcome its current challenges, stating that its future generations will look back and "speak proudly of these difficult but heroic days."
