Toronto, August 27, 2018. This Saturday, solidarity with Cuba in this city joined to celebrate the 23rd edition of the Toronto-Cuba Friendship Day, held at Toronto´s City Hall. The event was organized by the Canadian-Cuban Friendship Association in Toronto (CCFA-Toronto), the Association of Cuban Residents in Toronto "Juan Gualberto Gomez" and the Latin American and Caribbean Solidarity Network.
The main speaker of the event was the Cuban Ambassador, Josefina Vidal, who highlighted long-lasting friendly relations exist between the Canadian and the Cuban peoples and expressed sincere appreciation to the audience for their solidarity and for standing by the Cuban people along more than four decades. Her Excellency also thanked attendance of Elizabeth Hill, President of Canadian-Cuban Friendship Association in Toronto (CCFA-Toronto); Liz Rowley, leader of Communist Party of Canada; renowned intellectual Keith Ellis, Julio Fonseca, President of Association of Cuban Residents in Toronto, and dozens of Canadian friends, Latin-Americans, Palestinians y Cubans residents in Toronto.
At the end of the event, the Cuban flag was hoisted over the Nathan Philips Square at the Toronto City Hall, as a symbol of friendship between both peoples. The celebration was also attended by Consul General of Venezuela, Yolanda Brito and Consul General of Cuba, Tania López Larroque accompanied by the rest of the staff of the Consulate General of Cuba in Toronto. The award-winning singer Yulaysi Miranda enlivened the large audience, offering a wide repertoire of Cuban themes.
