Tribute to Fidel in Lebanon

Tribute to Fidel in Lebanon

On the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the physical departure of the greatest leader of the Cuban Revolution, the Cuban Embassy in Lebanon paid an emotional tribute to the life and work of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

In his speech, Ambassador Jorge Leon Cruz highlighted Fidel's legacy that remains present and his thought remains fully valid, particularly at this time in today's world, which was also evidenced by the workers of the embassy.

On the eve of this memorable commemoration, the following reflections of Fidel were recalled during his speech in 1979 before the United Nations General Assembly, which are still fully valid and which, to this day, resound in the corridors of history. It was not just any speech, it was a passionate and fierce defense of the Palestinian people.

"What is the United Nations for? What is the world for? You cannot speak of peace in the name of the tens of millions of human beings who die every year of hunger or curable diseases around the world."

"We repudiate with all our might the ruthless persecution and genocide that in its time was unleashed by Nazism against the Hebrew people but I cannot recall anything more similar in our contemporary history than the eviction, persecution and genocide that today is being carried out by imperialism and Zionism against the Palestinian people."

On this occasion, several messages were received from friends of solidarity with Cuba, friendship associations, leaders of political forces, resident Cuban citizens and Lebanese and Palestinian citizens graduated from Cuban universities and institutes.

The messages received expressed and evidenced broad expressions of sympathy, admiration and respect for the life and work of Fidel, recognized as a brilliant statesman, a triumphant warrior, invincible, undefeated and immortal.  His ideal of justice embraced humanity and promoted freedom, love, dignity and a truly human life.
