Addis Ababa, August 1, 2026.- In a moving ceremony held at Friendship Park, Dr. Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov unveiled a commemorative plaque dedicated to the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
The ceremony not only paid tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, but also served as an opportunity to honor the memory of the Cubans who fell fighting alongside the Ethiopian people, a symbol of the unbreakable solidarity between the two nations.
The event was attended by the Cuban Ambassador to Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez Alvarez, the Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Lucas Domingo Hernández Polledo, and members of the Ethiopia-Cuba Friendship Association, who reaffirmed their commitment to keeping alive the historical and cultural ties that unite both peoples.
This tribute is part of the international activities commemorating the centenary of Fidel Castro, highlighting the enduring relevance of his legacy and Africa's recognition of Cuban solidarity.
