Tribute to José Martí from The Bahamas.

Nassau. January 28th, 2023.- Several islands of The Bahamas honored José Martí on the 170th Anniversary of his birth.

The tribute to the National Hero was expressed through numerous activities by Cuban residents who work as teachers in local schools in Nassau, New Providence, and members of the State Mission, including education and health collaborators.

The Bahamian students honored the legacy of José Martí that their educators have transmitted to them, carrying out various performances where they recited poetry and remembered his work.

On the island of Inagua, where a monument to José Martí has been erected since 2013, commemorating the Apostle's passage through that territory during his journey from the Dominican Republic to Cuba, in 1895, in order to join the War of Independence, a teacher together with his Bahamian students laid a wreath and at the foot of the monument the students evoked the most universal of Cubans.

The date was also propitious for a group of Cuban residents to gather with a Cuban woman follower of Martí, who with her art and enthusiasm has always defended Cuban identity from the Bahamas. Her birthday is in January and she received white roses.

On Sunday during the caravan to demand the end of the blockade, the Cubans remembered José Martí, heirs of his legacy of patriotism and anti-imperialism.

The activities carried out were replicated on the different digital platforms of the Mission, the collaboration and several Cubans.
