Vienna, January 28, 2022. With the notes of the National Anthem, the tribute to José J. Martí Pérez began, on the occasion of the 169th anniversary of his birth by the Embassy of Cuba, the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association “ÖKG ” and of Cubans residing in Austria, before the bust of the National Hero of Cuba located in the Plaza de los Próceres Latinoamericanos del Parque del Danubio.
Ambassador Soraya Álvarez read the central words of the act, recalling the life and work of Martí, as well as his stay in several Latin American countries. She highlighted the efforts of the Hero not only to achieve the independence of Cuba, but also for the Latin American union. She stressed "that Cubans and Martians in the world remember Martí with deep respect and devotion, because Martí lived, fought and died for his ideals." She also made reference to the beginning, from this very day, of the activities and celebrations in the year of her 170th anniversary, which will end on January 28, 2023.
Together with a representative of the community of Cubans residing in Austria, she placed a floral offering before the bust of Martí.
The activity culminated with the donation ceremony to the Embassy of Cuba, of a work of art by the Cuban painter Víctor Alexis Puig, entitled: "With everyone and for the good of all", in honor of the National Hero. The beautiful painting was delivered by a representative of the Cuban art gallery in Vienna "Riss Kunst Galerie".
Several Ambassadors and members of the accredited diplomatic corps in Austria, as well as other friends of Cuba, attended the activity. A representative of the magazine "Society" made the photographic coverage of the solemn act.
