Port of Spain, August 10, 2022. The Trinidad and Tobago Oil Workers Union (OWTU) sent a message of solidarity to the Cuban people, due to the incident that occurred at the Matanzas Supertanker Base last August 5.
They highlighted the solidarity role played by Cuba to stop the Ebola and Covid19 epidemics in several countries of the world regardless of political inclination, race or religion. They also reaffirmed the solidary support to the Cuban people considered as an unbreakable example of hope for humanity.
With a firm statement, they demanded the cessation of the 243 measures to intensify the inhumane blockade imposed by the US government on Cuba, considering it as the fundamental impediment to the full economic development of the country. They also demanded the immediate removal of Cuba from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.
Finally, they rejected the current economic model imposed by capitalism, considering it as the fundamental cause of the increase in unfavorable climatic conditions that damage the vulnerable economies of the countries of the region and threaten the subsistence of life on the planet.
