Addis Ababa, January 28, 2026.- Within the framework of the African Union’s 2025 Theme of the Year, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” the roundtable discussion “Restitution, Cultural Rights, and the Right to Memory: From Africa to Latin America” was held, organized by UNESCO in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Ethiopia and the International Organization of La Francophonie.
The meeting addressed the restitution of African and Afro-descendant cultural heritage as a fundamental cultural right, closely linked to historical memory, cultural identity, and restorative justice
The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the African Union, Lucas Domingo Hernández Polledo, participated in the roundtable, reaffirming Cuba’s commitment to the defense of cultural heritage, historical memory and processes of justice and reparation for the peoples of Africa and its diaspora.
