UNIDO Director-General calls for solidarity with Cuba

Vienna, February 25. During the traditional presentation to Member States of the results of the work of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), its Director General, Mr. Gerd Müller, called for solidarity with the island.

The meeting was attended by all members of UNIDO's senior leadership structure, as well as most of the Organization's Member States. At the meeting, ambassadors and other representatives of the States asked questions and made comments on the presentations made by Mr. Müller and the other executives.

Responding to the complaint made at the meeting by Cuba's Permanent Representative to UNIDO, Ambassador Pablo Berti Oliva, about the intensification of the blockade and the energy embargo against the country, the Director-General recalled his visit to the island in May 2024. He also pointed out that, given the current situation in the country, solidarity with Cuba was needed and called on those present to show it.

UNIDO is a specialized agency of the United Nations with the unique mandate of promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development. It supports developing countries and emerging economies in the creation and transformation of their industries. Cuba maintains close cooperation with UNIDO through various projects that have a direct impact on the population and the sustainable development of the island.
