May 14, 2018, His Excellency Guillermo Vasquez Moreno, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, met with Mrs. Vidiah Ramkhelawan, Permanent Secretary and Divisional Heads of the Ministry of Tourism. The meeting was convened to discuss potential avenues to increase co-operation between Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba with respect to the offerings of the Tourism Sectors in both countries.
Key to the morning’s discussions were Multi-destination Tourism, that is, exploring the possibility of having visitors to Cuba, travelling on to Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean destinations. The discussions also addressed the possibility of including the Tour Operators in both countries in the promotion of Cuba as a preferred destination for Trinidad and Tobago nationals, based on the direct flights offered by Caribbean Airlines. The Ambassador also expressed Cuba’s desire to strengthen relations with the Caribbean and CARICOM.
His Excellency spoke to the similarities in tourism offerings between Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba. These similarities included, but were not limited to Leisure Tourism,Historical, Cultural, Eco and Community- Based Tourism, and other.
Th Ambassador added that each territory can learn from each other, particularly with respect to each country’s historical sites, popular attractions and cultural events.Both parties conveyed their willingness to work with each other to achieve the goals identified in the meeting.
