Vice President of India ratifies the support of his country in the legitimate demand of Cuba in favor of lifting the blockade.

New Delhi, 25 October 2016. From 23 to 24 of this month was held in the capital of India an International Conference entitled "Focus Latin America: the Need for an Effective Program," which was sponsored by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA ) with the participation of a group of personalities, academics and former diplomats from Latin America and India to propose ways to approach the Indian subcontinent to Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

The opening ceremony was led by Director General of ICWA, Ambassador Nalin Surie and Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, H.E. Mrs. Preeti Saran, who provided a perspective on relations in the region. This activity concluded with a meeting of participants and Ambassadors of the region with the Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari, who also chairs the Indian Council of World Affairs.

 

On this same day, the Cuban Ambassador Oscar Martinez Cordovés had the opportunity to talk with the Indian Vicepresident who recalled his recent meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro on Isla Margarita, following the 17th NAM Summit, and its official visit to Cuba in October 2013, where he was received by President Fidel Castro. During the cordial meeting with the Cuban diplomat, the Indian Vice President ratified the decision of his country to continue supporting the legitimate demand of Cuba for the lifting of the US blockade against the Caribbean island (Embacuba-India-Cubaminrex).
