Vienna, November 28. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, received the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Eduardo Martínez Díaz, who heads the Cuban delegation to the IAEA Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications and the Technical Cooperation Program.
During the exchange, both parties discussed the excellent state of relations between the IAEA and Cuba, and exchanged on the favorable execution of technical cooperation projects and the potential for their strengthening.
As part of the meeting's agenda, the Cuban delegation updated the high international official on Cuba's progress in the implementation of the programs undertaken by the IAEA, despite the direct impact of the economic blockade and the inclusion of Cuba in the illegal list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, which are the greatest obstacle to the country's development, including access to the benefits of nuclear energy.
Likewise, the also Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba conveyed to the Director General his support and backing for the work he is carrying out at the head of the IAEA, fundamentally in the promotion of atoms for peace and development.
The Director General reiterated the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency to Cuba and the willingness to continue cooperating with the country on issues of mutual benefit to both parties.
