The Sự Thật (Truth) National Political Publishing House of Việt Nam and Cuba’s Fidel Castro Ruz Centre have reached an agreement to jointly publish Obras Escogidas (Selected Works) by Fidel Castro, marking a significant effort to preserve and promote the Cuban leader’s ideological legacy while deepening bilateral ties.
The agreement was discussed during talks in Hà Nội on Wednesday, as part of a working visit to Việt Nam by a Cuban delegation from May 18–22, led by Dr. Réne González Barrios, Director of the Fidel Castro Ruz Centre.
Vũ Trọng Lâm, Director of the Sự Thật National Political Publishing House, emphasized the practical significance of the visit in strengthening the special friendship between Việt Nam and Cuba. He highlighted the enduring solidarity between the two nations, recalling Fidel Castro’s immortal words: “For Việt Nam, Cuba is willing to shed its own blood.”
The translation, editing, and publication of the collection in Spanish, English, and Vietnamese carries profound political and cultural value. Preparations have been underway since the Cuban side’s proposal, with editorial teams from both countries working closely to ensure accuracy, consistency, and historical integrity. Despite time zone differences, coordination has remained regular, with trial prints already completed.
Dr. Barrios expressed appreciation for Việt Nam’s active cooperation, noting that the project reflects the shared responsibility and affection between the two sides. He stressed that the publication is of special significance, contributing to the preservation and dissemination of Fidel Castro’s ideological legacy worldwide. The Fidel Castro Ruz Centre is overseeing the English translation, while the Vietnamese edition will be managed by the Sự Thật Publishing House.
Beyond the current project, both sides agreed to explore developing a digital bookshelf dedicated to Fidel Castro and to expand cooperation in publishing works on Việt Nam–Cuba relations. A memorandum of understanding was signed to strengthen collaboration in translation, editing, publishing, and distribution of theoretical, political, and historical works.
The Obras Escogidas collection comprises 23 volumes totaling approximately 16,000 pages. It systematically compiles Fidel Castro’s speeches, writings, interviews, messages, and key documents throughout his revolutionary career, offering a comprehensive reflection of his ideology, leadership, and contributions to the Cuban Revolution. Its perspectives on peace, social justice, sustainable development, and international relations remain relevant for many developing countries today.
This joint publication not only honors Fidel Castro’s enduring legacy but also stands as a vivid testament to the unwavering solidarity between the Parties, States, and peoples of Việt Nam and Cuba.
