The Union of Friendship Organizations of Vietnam and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association issued a message of support for the Cuban people, expressing deep concern over recent legal measures, sanctions, and restrictions imposed by the United States. These include Executive Order 14404 of May 1, 2026, the criminal indictment against Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and actions targeting President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, relatives of Cuban leaders, and various institutions and companies in the country.
The Vietnamese organizations noted that these measures exacerbate the effects of the prolonged blockade and unilateral sanctions, directly impacting the well-being of the population, hindering sustainable development, and generating negative consequences for regional stability. In particular, they rejected the sanctions against the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), which they recognize as a key partner in strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
The statement reaffirms that the Vietnamese people have offered, are offering, and will continue to offer solidarity and understanding to the Cuban people, trusting in their ability to overcome adversity and move toward a stable and prosperous nation. It also calls on all parties to refrain from actions that escalate tensions and to prioritize dialogue and peaceful solutions.
Vietnamese organizations urged compliance with the UN General Assembly resolutions on ending the blockade and unilateral sanctions against Cuba, promoting peace, cooperation, and sustainable development worldwide.
