Vietnamese, Cuban ministries target stronger cooperation

Minister of Public Security General To Lam has suggested that his ministry and the Cuban Ministry of the Interior should continue their mutual support in the areas of their strength.

At a reception for Pedro Soca Pascual, representative of the Cuban Ministry of the Interior in Hanoi on April 8, Lam said that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the two sides have effectively carried out cooperation activities both online and in person.

To deepen the ties, he suggested the further implementation of their cooperation agreement reached in November 2017, stepping up delegation exchange and boosting collaboration in health care.

For his part, Pascual stressed that the Cuban ministry has always made efforts to maintain and foster the traditional, special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.

The ministry also stands ready to enhance and expand its ties with the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in all fields, especially in safeguarding national security and providing order safety and security, he said.

During their online talks last year, Lam and Cuban Minister of the Interior Lazaro Alberto Álvarez Casas also sought ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Lam emphasized that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam in general, and his ministry in particular treasure and keep in mind the solidarity and wholehearted support, both materially and spiritually, Cuba has been granted to Vietnam during the Southeast Asian nation's past struggle for national liberation as well as the present cause of national construction and defense.

On December 2, 1960, Cuba became the first country in the Western hemisphere that had established diplomatic relations with the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Ever since, the two countries have promoted their special traditional relations.
