His official visit to our country, in the midst of the electro-energy situation and the confrontation with the damage caused by Hurricane Oscar in the province of Guantánamo, constitutes another example of the deep and historical solidarity of the Namibian people and authorities with our Homeland; ties forged in the common struggles of our people and in a close friendship between Fidel Castro and Sam Nujoma.

This was expressed this October 23 by the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, when receiving, at the National Capitol, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Namibia, Peter Katjavivi.

The head of the Cuban Parliament highlighted the unity of our people and the decision and willingness to work tirelessly to overcome this situation. At the same time, he thanked the historic position of the sister African nation, especially its National Assembly, in condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government and the inclusion of our country in the spurious list of supposed sponsoring States of terrorism.

For his part, Peter Katjavivi highlighted the special relations between Cuba and Namibia, a close brotherhood forged by our historical leaders and strengthened to this day. This visit, "more than a formal exchange between legislative bodies, is a reaffirmation of the special relationship that has existed between Namibia and Cuba for decades, a relationship that emerged from shared struggle and solidarity. "Namibia will always remember Cuba's essential role in supporting our liberation struggle," he said.

At the close of the fruitful and fraternal meeting, Esteban Lazo Hernández and Peter Katjavivi signed a Cooperation Protocol between both National Assemblies and toured the historic halls of the National Capitol.

Also participating in the exchange were Ana María Mari Machado and Homero Acosta Álvarez, vice president and secretary of the Cuban legislature, respectively; Martha del Carmen Mesa Valenciano, president of the Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Environment Commission of the National Assembly; Amarilys Lafargue, secretary of the Cuba-Namibia Parliamentary Friendship Group; Samuel Henrik Goagoseb, Ambassador of the African nation in our country; among other officials.
