World Day of Prayer was devoted to Cuba by several churches of different religious affiliation on March 4th 2016. At least St Philip´s Parish Church, Speightstown Methodist Church and St John´s Church have done a Worship Service, which was prepared by the Cuban WDP Committee entitled “Receive children. Receive me”. To this purpose, the coordinators of these activities, Sisters Joyce Sealy, Peggy Wilkes and Marcia Miller, respectively, visited the Cuban Embassy in Barbados to get some information and national symbols for the contextualization of the service.
The Cuban Ambassador, Francisco Fernández, attended to the service at St John´s Church in which its congregation recognized that “we did not lift up our voices sufficiently to denounce an injustice like the economic blockade that has affected the Cuban people for more than 56 years, thus endangering our children’s health and growth (…) We give thanks for the professionals who have been sent in missions of solidarity from Cuba to other countries, in order to assist in education and health services. We pray for their families who miss them during prolonged periods of absence (…) We thank you that young people have a chance to study, and pray that you will support them in search of their social integration, personal realization, and professional growth (…) We thank you for the people that work hard for the social, economic, cultural and spiritual development of our country. We pray that you transform the walls erected by the economic blockade into wide open doors that are ready to receive.
