Addis Ababa, June 20, 2024.- Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Natalys Dinza Utria, participates in the commemoration of World Refugee Day at the headquarters of the African Union (AU).
The activity was attended by representatives of AU member states, observer states and heads of the United Nations Refugee Agency's offices in Ethiopia.
This year the debates revolved around the theme: "Galvanizing international solidarity with refugees, redoubling efforts towards refugee education to promote solutions" which aims to raise awareness about the need to build resilient education systems, increase access to inclusive, permanent, quality and relevant learning in Africa.
June 20 is designated as a day to honor and celebrate the strength and courage of refugees, people who have been forced to flee their home country due to conflict, persecution, or violations of their rights. Originally commemorated as Africa Refugee Day, the United Nations General Assembly officially designated it as an international day in December 2000. Since then, the day has been commemorated annually to highlight the plight of refugees and mobilize political will and resources for refugees.
