The city of Montreal hosted, this Saturday, the XVIII National Meeting of Cubans Residing in Canada, which was attended by members of associations from all over the country and was dedicated to José Martí, Cuba's National Hero, 130 years after his fall in combat and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Canada.
During the event, an assessment was made of the main activities carried out by the various associations of Cubans, highlighting the sending of numerous donations to Cuba for various sectors of Cuban society and the participation in the Bridges of Love caravans. It also served to exchange on aspects of the Cuban current affairs and to abound in business and investment opportunities for Cubans living abroad.
From the messages sent by Ana Teresita González, General Director of the General Directorate of Consular Affairs and Cubans Residing Abroad of MINREX and Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, National Coordinator of the CDRs, the recognition from Cuba to all the actions developed in Canada in support of the Homeland was confirmed. A pleasant surprise was the greetings sent by the Sports Glories Omara Durand and Mijaín López.
As a result of the meeting, the Final Declaration was approved which ratifies, among other aspects, the will of those present to maintain support for the Homeland and the defense of its sovereignty, the condemnation of the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States and the policy of economic suffocation deployed by the Trump administration; as well as the denunciation of the inclusion of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism. In addition, an Action Plan for the coming year was presented, with the purpose of strengthening the activism of the Associations of Cubans living in Canada, with initiatives that contribute to make visible the historical, patriotic and cultural values of our people.
The meeting was also attended by Dany Tur de la Concepción, Chargé d'Affaires a.i., the Consuls General in Toronto and Montreal, Jorge Yanier Castellanos and Susana Malmierca and the Consul in Ottawa, Mariset Vazquez. Other members of the diplomatic staff accredited in the country and invited nationals also participated.
