Harare, 20 March 2025- The Herald newspaper today lauded the words of Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting, Dr Omphile Marupi, in affirming the need to share mutual content and strengthen Zimbabwe-Cuba media ties.
The resistance demonstrated by the bilateral ties is a strength of character and remains unwavering despite the West's punitive unilateral coercive measures against the sovereignty of both countries, Marupi was quoted as saying by the influential newspaper.
Marupi made the remarks at the Ministerial Forum and the 4th Patria International Colloquium in Havana, Cuba, which was also attended by Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services Dingumuzi Phuti.
According to The Herald, the existence of an agreement between the Zimbabwean news agency New Ziana and its Cuban counterpart Prensa Latina should be exploited to share mutual content and strengthen the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries.
The African nation's delegation attended the forums to receive and share knowledge and experience in order to forge new joint paths in the development of our countries, hence the importance of cooperation in the field of media communication, the deputy minister said.
The newspaper highlighted Marupi's assertion that ‘the resistance of both nations to the economic sanctions imposed by the imperialist powers has not hindered medical cooperation, the training of Zimbabwean professionals on the island and exchanges in areas of mutual interest’.
The Herald also commented on Deputy Minister Phuti's statement with the call and willingness to safeguard information systems through the creation of sovereignty-protecting regulatory policies.
Zimbabwe and Cuba have been targeted by imperialist powers for maintaining their determination to fight imperialism, neo-colonialism and Western machination to interfere with their sovereignty, the article concludes.
