The Cypriot newspaper “Haravgi” featured on its front page and central pages this Tuesday, July 28, the historical legacy of the 73rd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks on July 26, 1953, which became the National Rebellion Day in Cuba. The article reproduces an overview of the historical event commemorated in a political ceremony held last July 23 at the Cuban Embassy in Nicosia, attended by diplomats, representatives of political forces and friendly associations, supporters of Cuba, and Cubans residing in Cyprus, in a sincere tribute to the Moncada action.

Haravgi reviews the speech of MP and member of the Secretariat and Political Bureau of the AKEL Party, Aristos Damianou, in tribute to the action of July 26, 1953, and in shared homage to the centenary of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.

Nicosia, Cyprus. July 24, 2026. - The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Cyprus held a heartfelt commemoration on Thursday, July 23, for the 73rd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, in a tribute shared with the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the occasion of the celebration throughout 2026 of the centenary of his birth.

In the company of diplomats from Brazil, China, Russia, and Palestine; representatives of the Progressive Party of the Working People (AKEL), Sotiroula Charalambous, General Secretary of the All-Cypriot Federation of Labour (PEO); members of the United Democratic Youth Organization (EDON) of Cyprus; the All-Cypriot Association of Democratic Resistance; the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association; and Greek and Turkish Cypriot solidarity from all over the island and, in particular, from the Mayor's Office of Potamiá, they also accompanied friends from Italy and Mexico who, together with Cubans living on the Mediterranean island, "embraced" the tribute to the Moncada feat.

Along with thanking the large turnout at the Cuban Embassy in Nicosia and emphasising the historical significance of the actions of July 26, 1953, for the Cuban nation, the host ambassador, Rubén Pino Martínez, commented on and presented to the attendees an audiovisual that illustrates the background and subsequent events of that “driving force” of the country's revolutionary history.

Cuban ambassador signs condolence book opened at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Cyprus for the passing of His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani

Nicosia, Cyprus, July 15, 2026. — The Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, signed on the morning of Wednesday, July 15, the condolence book opened at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in this capital on the occasion of the passing of His Highness, the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The Caribbean diplomat took the opportunity to convey to his Qatari counterpart, His Excellency the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Cyprus, Yousef Sultan Laram, the most sincere condolences to the brotherly State of Qatar, its government and people, on behalf of the Cuban government and people, also extending them to the family and friends of His Highness the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Pino Martínez recalled in his message of condolences and mentioned to his host the close friendship of the great Qatari leader with the Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro, as well as the unforgettable memories cherished by His Highness the Father Emir, a result of his love for Cuba and its people.

Cuban ambassador attends ceremony for France's National Day in Cyprus.

Nicosia, Cyprus, July 14, 2026. – Invited by Her Excellency, the Ambassador of the French Republic to Cyprus, Ms Clélia Chevrier-Kolacko, her Cuban counterpart Rubén Pino Martínez attended the reception for France's National Day this Tuesday, accompanied by a significant representation of the diplomatic corps accredited in this capital.

Prior to the ceremony for the French National Day, commemorating the storming of the Bastille during the French Revolution of 1789, the two ambassadors had a brief and cordial exchange, during which Pino Martínez congratulated his counterpart as well as her diplomatic staff, reiterating his best wishes on the occasion of France's national holiday.

The evening brought together in Nicosia a large representation of diplomatic missions accredited here, Cypriot government entities, a sizeable resident French community, and French business firms with a notable presence on the island. Many of them shared that same night, together with the host diplomatic delegation and their Spanish counterparts, the happy coincidence of watching the match between their respective teams during the FIFA World Cup.
