Cuban Ambassador to Cyprus Attends Commemoration of the 77th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Sister People's Republic of China

Nicosia, September 14, 2026. The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, participated on Monday in the official evening on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, a ceremony that was presided over by Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus and Yang Yundong, H.E. Ambassador of China to the Mediterranean nation.

The reception, which took place at the Hilton Hotel in Nicosia, was attended by a large representation of the diplomatic corps accredited on the island, authorities of the Cypriot government and Foreign Ministry, various local political formations, the military corps accredited in Nicosia, members of the Cyprus-China Solidarity Association and the growing community of the Asian giant resident in Cyprus, as well as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Mr. Khassim Diagne.

A unique moment for the Cuban diplomat, Pino Martínez, to reiterate to his counterpart Yang Yundong his expressions of respect, solidarity, and support on such an important occasion, while also congratulating him on behalf of the Republic of Cuba and wishing all kinds of success and well-being to his diplomatic team, his government, and his people on this significant national celebration.

Cypriot newspaper Haravgi publishes article on the economic impact of the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

Nicosia, Cyprus, September 9: The Cypriot daily “Haravgi” published an article this Wednesday, September 9, on the losses Cuba has suffered from the U.S. blockade, with a record figure exceeding 8 billion dollars, following the report made in Havana by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, who presented Cuba’s report on Monday, September 7, under resolution A/Res/80/4 titled "Need to end the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba," to national and international media, detailing the damage caused by the blockade against Cuba between March 2025 and February 2026.

Cuba: Losses exceeding $8 billion due to the U.S. blockade

Record losses exceeding 8 billion dollars have been caused in Cuba by the United States' economic blockade, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reported. Speaking at a press conference in Havana, Rodríguez denied that there are ongoing talks with Washington or plans for future negotiations, while what he called a 'suffocating blockade' continues.

Cuban ambassador receives the president of the Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts of Cyprus.

Nicosia, Cyprus. September 9, 2026. The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, received a courtesy visit on Wednesday at his diplomatic headquarters from Professor Achilleas K. Emilianides, President of the Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts of Cyprus, who was accompanied by Sotiris Kalogirou and Lina Tumpanou, an Academic and Head of its Department of Exact Sciences and the Head of the Administrative Committee of the prestigious institution, respectively.

The Cuban diplomat welcomed them and thanked them for accepting the invitation to this meeting, while also reiterating his interest and willingness to continue deepening the already existing relations between the Cuban Embassy and the Cypriot academy, a reflection of the historic ties of friendship and brotherhood that have connected Cuba and Cyprus for the past 65 years.

Pino Martínez updated the visitors on the current situation in his country and the executive orders implemented by the U.S. government, which aim to tighten the economic blockade imposed on the island for more than six decades and economically stifle our population in every possible sector. In this context, the Cuban ambassador gave the Cypriot delegation a copy of Cuba’s Report under resolution A/Res/80/4 titled 'Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial, and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America Against Cuba' (REPORT 2026.pdf), which was presented on September 7 by the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, to the national and international press, detailing the damage caused by the blockade against Cuba between March 2025 and February 2026.

Nicosia, Cyprus, September 7: The Cypriot newspaper “Haravgi” included on its front page this Sunday, September 6, a feature and a full-page interview with the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, titled “They are trying to suffocate the entire Cuban nation,” which covers—among other topics—the consequences of the U.S. blockade on Cuba’s health, energy, and everyday life sectors.

The interview reveals how the island is facing one of the most difficult periods in recent decades, with energy limitations and shortages that directly affect the daily lives of its people; it reflects on the consequences of the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade and its impact on the national hospital system due to the lack of medicines, energy, and many other aspects of everyday Cuban life.

Japanese Ambassador in Cyprus receives his cuban counterpart on courtesy visit

Nicosia, Cyprus, September 4, 2026.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Cyprus, Mr. Rubén Pino Martínez, was received this Friday by his counterpart, the Hon. Ambassador of Japan in Cyprus, Mr. Satoshi Iwasaki, during a courtesy visit at the premises of the Japanese diplomatic mission in this capital.

During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat thanked his Japanese counterpart for the kindness and honor of receiving him, while also acknowledging his close and friendly relationship with the Cuban diplomatic mission since his accreditation in Nicosia as head of the Japanese embassy, in line with the shared commitment to continue strengthening our diplomatic ties.

Pino Martínez shared updates with his Japanese counterpart about the difficult economic situation currently facing the Caribbean island, as a result of the illegal blockade, the hostile and ongoing policy of economic suffocation, and the energy siege imposed by the U.S. government against the largest of the Antilles. He went into detail about the impact and human cost of that policy, which has unimaginable consequences for 21st-century Cuba, stemming from the latest executive orders and sanctions applied over the past seven months against the island, as evidence of the collective punishment currently imposed on an entire nation.
