For nearly 60 years, the United States has waged an economic war against Cuba. The blockade that was launched in 1961/62 has never been as fierce as it is now.

I, Jan Edvin Christian Gustafsson, Danish citizen, scholar at the University of Copenhagen and writer, wish to express my firm opposition to United States’ blockade, also named embargo, against Cuba. As Latin Americanist scholar and specialist in Cuban studies with a personal knowledge of the Cuban society and of the Cuban immigrant community in Florida, I can assert that the embargo is a violation of the Cuban peoples’ human rights and an attack against Cuban economy.
