The Cuba Solidarity Campaign elected a new chairperson at its AGM in June. Kevin Courtney, Joint General Secretary of National Education Union, was unanimously elected after Diana Holland retired from the role she had held for twelve years.

MATT KERR reports on the Cuban ambassador’s visit to Scotland, a nation that stands out in its support for the socialist island in the Caribbean (The Morning Star).

The Cuban ambassador to Britain, Barbara Alvarez, visited Scotland last week, a place where the Cuban struggle has enjoyed solid support for many years.

She would visit the Scottish Parliament — the first in the world to debate the plight of the Miami Five — and its Cuba cross-party group brilliantly led by former MSP Elaine Smith and now chaired by Labour’s Carol Mochan; but the first stop was Glasgow.

London, June 10, 2023- Friends of solidarity with Cuba, trade unionists, parliamentarians and local authorities reiterated their solidarity with Cuba during the working visit of the Cuban ambassador, Bárbara Montalvo Álvarez, to the Scottish cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
