Thank you Baroness Christine Blower for being the first member of the House of Lords to formally nominate Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Imti Choonara, Emeritus Professor in Child Health at the University of Nottingham has officially nominated Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
Choonara, who is an expert on health care in Cuba and has spoken and written about Cuban medical care becomes the sixth British academic to receive acknowledgement of their formal nomination from the Nobel Prize Committee.
Dr John Yandell, Associate Professor at University College London’s Institute of Education has become the fifth British academic to formally nominate the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Norwegian Nobel Prize Committee acknowledged receipt of his on 3 December. Five academics and eight parliamentarians from Britain have now made official nominations in recognition of the humanitarian work of the Cuban internationalist health workers who have been volunteering in 39 countries during the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this year, Cubans in the UK fundraised £550 to donate a television to an old people's home in Cuba. With Cuba's borders now open, we will finally be able to make the donation in person. We will also be taking other donations, including piano strings for Havana's Guillermo Tomás Music Conservatory and sound equipment for the Soñarte community project in Havana.
