We, the Sri Lanka – Cuba Friendship Society, joined the international community in solidarity with Cuba, in the face of the difficult situation the island is going through.
We reiterated that our Society is aware of the complex scenario of the Cuba we sure that the Cuban people and government will overcome it and "advance in their socialist cause," under the leadership of the Communist Party, while urging the United States government to lift the blockade as the main cause of the extreme situation of the country.

The Sri Lankan newspaper explained that Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel reviewed the situation related to the power cut the Cubans suffered in the last few days due to the US blockade, and the effects of the hurricane that hit that nation’s eastern region.

Cuba is simultaneously experiencing a serious energy crisis and the recent impact of Hurricane Oscar, warned the letter, promoted by the organization The People’s Forum, in its call to Biden.

Colombo, October 16, 2024. The new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya received the Cuban ambassador to Sri Lanka, Andrés Marcelo González Garrido, who congratulated her on her appointment and wished her success.
During the meeting, the diplomat updated her on bilateral issues, and referred to Cuba's achievements in the areas of health and sports, Sri Lankan graduates from Cuban institutions and students currently at ELAM, studying Medicine.
