Mr. President, distinguished permanent representatives:

We highly value the leadership of the People’s Republic of China in defending international peace and security, observance of international law; preservation, strengthening and appropriate reform of the United Nations Organization, particularly democratization, transparency and effectiveness of the Security Council and empowerment of the General Assembly; as well as in building a multilateral international order, based on sovereign, fair and democratic equality.

The World Health Organization has awarded Cuba for maintaining its historic status as a country free of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis. This recognition, presented by its Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, reaffirms an exceptional achievement in public health. Cuba, which in 2015 became the first nation in the world to reach this milestone, continues to demonstrate that universal health coverage, firm political commitment, and robust primary care are fundamental pillars for protecting pregnant women and their children.

It is an honor and a deeply moving experience for me to be here today, in this place, named after Surjeet, a man who embodied, like few others, solidarity among peoples.
