Interviews in Belize for Cuba-CARICOM scholarship program 20-21

On December 4th, 2020, representatives from the; Ministry of Education (Tertiary Education Unit), Foreign Affairs, Health, and the Cuban Embassy, respectively, all participated in the interview session of young Belizeans who are applying to study medicine in Cuba. As customary, members of the Cuban Medical Brigade Head also participated.

The session took place virtually due to the restrictions consequently imposed as a response to the coronavirus pandemic. Thankfully, this meeting is the last step of the scholarship program Cuba has historically offered to the CARICOM community.

Last night on the evening news there was a story about the life-saving medical collaboration with a Belizean team of nurses, doctors and technicians in collaboration with Dr. Mauro Castelló, 2nd in charge of the Cuban Medical Brigade to Belize. I think it must remind us of the valuable humanitarian support Cuba has given to Belize for 30 years.

Hon. Michael Chebat meets Cuban Ambassador in Belmopan

As part of Hon. Michel Chebat's familiarization of his duties as Minister of Health and Wellness, he met this afternoon with Cuban Ambassador to Belize H.E. Ambassador Lissett Perez Perez to discuss the Belize - Cuba health relationship. Hon. Chebat got a brief history of the 30 year history of health support from Cuba to Belize and was updated on the current status of the Belize-Cuba Memorandum of Understanding.

Both representatives expressed their assurance for further avenues of ongoing collaboration and support as we move along.

Minister of Health, Hon. Pablo Marin and Ambassador of Cuba for Belize, H. E. Lissette Pérez Pérez, signed the 2020-2021 Cooperative Health Agreement in a brief ceremony held in Belmopan on October 5, 2020.
