Washington, April 16, 2024 - On April 16, 2024, representatives of Cuba and the United States held bilateral migration talks in Washington DC. 

Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío Domínguez headed the Cuban delegation and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the State Department's Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs Eric Jacobstein led the U.S. delegation.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the implementation of the bilateral Migration Agreements, whose texts set forth the mutual commitment to guarantee regular, safe and orderly migration.

Cuba has been warning about the dangers posed by the impunity with which Israel has acted against countries in the Middle East with the complicity and support of the United States government. The illegal attack on the consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, in clear violation of International Law and the 1961 Vienna Convention, endangered international peace and security, fostering the possible regionalization of the conflict with unpredictable consequences for the world peace.

The opening ceremony of the Havana Film Festival in New York will inaugurate today a varied lineup that confirms the richness of the seventh art in the region, according to renowned Cuban critic Luciano Castillo.    

The 24th edition of the event stands out for the selection of films and informative exhibitions with two retrospectives programmed that are very attractive to the public, according to the researcher.

The emblematic Havana Film Festival of this city will begin its program of activities today with a tribute to Cuban film director Nicolás Guillén Landrián (1938-2003), which will open the doors of its 24th edition.

The opening day, held at Hofstra University, will feature the screening of En un barrio viejo, Los del baile and Ociel del Toa, creations by the director, who is considered one of the members of the Cuban film avant-garde of the 1960s and early 1970s, particularly for his documentary work.
