We congratulate you on your election as Chairman of the Disarmament Commission for this year's substantive session. We extend our congratulations to the members of the Bureau and the chairs of the working groups.

Mr. President,

Cuba associates itself with the statement delivered by Pakistan on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, and wishes to deliver the following remarks in its national capacity.

I thank the President of the General Assembly for convening this informal interactive dialogue on commodity markets, in follow-up to the provisions laid down in General Assembly resolution 76/194.

Mr. Chairman,

Cuba wishes to express its satisfaction at the holding of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries.

We appreciate the efforts made by Qatar to organize and materialize this conference, despite all the odds. At the same time, we congratulate the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States for the preparation of this important meeting.

Mr. Chairman;

First of all, we wish to congratulate the Permanent Representatives of El Salvador and Australia, on their designation as Co-Chairs of this process during the 76th session.

76 UNGA: Address by ambassador Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, in the United Nations General Assembly Emergency Special Session on Ukraine. New York, 1 March 2022

Mr. President, 

Last 26 February, the Cuban Government issued a Statement on the events in Ukraine, clearly adopting a stance in favor of a solution that guarantees the security and sovereignty of all and addresses legitimate humanitarian concerns.

Cuba champions International Law and is committed to the Charter of the United Nations. Cuba will always defend peace and unambiguously oppose the use or threat of use of force against any State. 

76 UNGA: Cuba at General debate of the first session of the Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes. New York, 28 February 2022

Madam Chair,

We appreciate the efforts made by the Bureau of the Ad Hoc Committee, under your leadership, and the Secretary of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to hold the First Session of this body in New York.

The commencement of the work of the Ad Hoc Committee established by General Assembly resolution 74/247 has been delayed for far too long.

Madam Chair,

My delegation associates itself with the remarks delivered by Pakistan on behalf of the Group of 77 and China. In addition, I would like to point out the following elements in national capacity.

Two years after the outbreak of the pandemic, the socio-economic situation triggered by the COVID-19 continues to seriously impact on all areas of social development.

I thank Executive Director Mrs. Catherine Russell for her valuable and substantive statement while extending our congratulations on her appointment to the post. I convey to her our best wishes for success in her duties.

I take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Mrs. Henrietta Fore for her service throughout these years at the helm of UNICEF with commendable results. I also thank the members of the Bureau for their preparations to hold this meeting.
