A new Doctor of Sciences is the pride of the Cuban community in Finland
It was a pleasure to welcome our compatriot Juan Carlos Guzmán, who has lived in Finland for more than 20 years, at our Embassy this Monday. This opportunity, the meeting with greater joy and happiness after his recent graduation as a Doctor of Sciences, a dream to which he dedicated the last decade of his life, which he narrates includes relevant moments such as the birth of his little son Sami. Engineer Juan Carlos, as his friends call him, is a Cuban who enhances the prestige, academic preparation and pride of the Cuban Community residing in Finland.
Statement by Minrex: "Enforcement of the U.S. blockade in Argentina forces Cubana de Aviación to suspend flights"
In March 2024, the company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales S.A. (YPF) of the Republic of Argentina informed the airline Cubana de Aviación of its refusal to continue supplying fuel to its aircrafts, in application of the United States blockade against Cuba. As a result, Cubana de Aviación has been forced to suspend regular flights between Cuba and Argentina, which had been maintained for 39 years.
Cuba recognizes President Tarja Halonen at an event for the 95th Anniversary of relations with Finland
During the commemoration of the 95th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cuba and the Republic of Finland, Ambassador Beatriz Parra González presented the former President Tarja Halonen, a prominent member of the Association Finland-Cuba and renowned international figure, recognition for his support of solidarity between both peoples, with a reproduction of the painting "El Triunfo de la Rumba" by the emblematic Cuban painter Eduardo Abela. In presence of more than a hundred attendees, the Cuban representative also highlighted the issues that have marked these nine decades of diplomatic relations, mentioning the participation of Finnish figures in the Caribbean independence efforts, the collaboration established in the scientific and academic fields, as well as the Finland's historic support for Cuba's denunciation of the United States blockade.

The images that accompany these words come directly from Cuba. They show the brigade of the Finland-Cuba Friendship Association that visits our country every year, joining maintenance work voluntarily at the pediatric hospital in the province of Las Tunas. Every year Finnish friends arrive with all their good vibes and with important medical supplies, which allows our people to overcome the impact of the cruel US blockade, which heavily affects health services for innocent children. This is just an event, a fact, just a piece of the extensive history that exists between our two peoples and countries, formalized exactly 95 years ago on April 5th, but which, as you will learn in this meeting, goes back much further.
Cuba promotes its business opportunities at the Finnish Chamber of Commerce
The Embassy of Cuba in Finland has participated in the event "Inspiring Latin America" hosted by the Finnish Chamber of Commerce, with the presence of more that 60 compannies of this nordic nation. Cuba presented the portfolio of opportunities and announced the main products among its exportable items. The event included the tasting of some typical Cuban dishes, appreciated by those attending this meeting. Ambassador Beatriz Parra González considered the importance of this space to increase and strengthen commercial exchange between both nations.
