Cuban Parliament elects former tourism minister as prime minister

Havana, December 21, 2019. Manuel Marrero was elected Cuba's prime minister by the National Assembly of the People's Power on Saturday, so he will be the head of Government for the next five years.

Marrero had been proposed by President Miguel Diaz-Canel as established by the Constitution proclaimed in April.

In his proposal, Diaz-Canel highlighted Marrero's excellent work at the helm of the Ministry of Tourism, as well as his honesty and dedication.

Cuban Parliament approves new Council of Ministers

 The Cuban Parliament on Saturday approved the new Council of Ministers proposed by President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdes, Roberto Ojeda, Ines Maria Chapman, Ricardo Cabrisas and Jorge Luis Tapia were ratified as deputy prime ministers, who were joined by Alejandro Gil, who will continue to be the minister of Economy.

 The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, congratulated on Monday the workers and diplomats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) and the Cuban people for the 60th anniversary of the creation of the agency.

"Congratulations to our worthy diplomats, the workers of #CubaMinrex and the Cuban people for building, doing, defending and exalting our foreign policy on the 60th anniversary of MINREX," the president wrote on the social network Twitter.

Social cuts impoverish Latin America, warns Frei Betto

Havana, December 26, 2019. Latin America is undergoing a process of re-impoverishment resulting not only from economic factors, but also from social policy cuts, asserted Frei Betto in an article published on the Cubadebate website.

According to the Brazilian intellectual, author of about 60 books on various topics, this reality is especially notable in countries where parliamentary coups have occurred, such as Honduras, Paraguay and Brazil, and in those that in recent years have been governed by neoliberal presidents, such as Argentina and Chile.
