Ambassador of Cuba made work visit to Georgia

The ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Georgia, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, made a concurrence visit in this nation, in which he was received by several local authorities.

During his stay, the diplomat met with the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Levan Kharatishvili and the First Deputy Minister of Health, Tamar Gabunia.

Nieves Portuondo also maintained contact with the president of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia and head of the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, George Kvesitadze.

A sextet of Cuban judokas will rise to the Georgian tatami starting this Saturday, when they participate in the Grand Prix (GP) of Tbilisi, third of the level tournaments in which there will be presence of athletes of the Greater Antilles, reports the Cuban newspaper Juventud Rebelde.

According to the media, three representatives in each sex traveled to the capital of that eastern European state, led in each case by Kaliema Antomarchi, world bronze of 2017 in the 78 kilograms, and Iván Silva (90 kg), runner-up in the world of the year past.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Georgia, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, participated in the inauguration of the new president of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili.
The new president was sworn in after being elected with 59% of the votes in the elections held at the end of November.
Attendees from dozens of countries attended the swearing-in ceremony.

During the work visit, the Cuban diplomat learned about the technological advances of the industry and the interest of his managers in establishing contacts with Cuban counterparts.

Members of the Georgian Orthodox Church expressed admiration and respect for the work, hospitality and humanitarian sense and solidarity of the Cuban people during a meeting with the Cuban ambassador in Georgia, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo.
During the evening, the Cuban diplomat thanked the invitation and highlighted the historical ties of friendship between the Georgian and Cuban people.

During his speech he referred to his country's interest in maintaining and increasing social and humanitarian achievements and updated students on the Cuban reality.
In his dissertation, the diplomat highlighted the friendship between both nations and the interest in increasing cooperation between Tbilisi and Havana.
