We have memory and we must not forget the heroes and martyrs of the country who offered their lives for a better world. April 9, 2021 is the 63rd anniversary of the strike on April 9, 1958, which was called by the national leadership of the July 26 Movement, chaired by Fidel Castro. It was starred by hundreds of combatants, the vast majority of them young workers and humble workers, with the aim of paralyzing the nation and unleashing a mass movement that led to the collapse of the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship. The situation that served as a prologue to this day of struggle was one of revolutionary apogee as a continuation of an insurrectionary process that began on July 26, 1953 with the assault on the Moncada Barracks, the second military fortress in the country. Tactical and organizational factors spoiled the success of that day, but it served as experience and spur until reaching the triumph of the revolution on January 1, 1959.
