There is no denying that the situation in Cuba is extremely difficult and has been for some time. And it is quite understandable that shortages of basic necessities cause unrest and dissatisfaction amongst the general population. However, it is also clear that these shortages are a direct consequence of the United States' 'long war' against Cuba which has included attempts at military intervention, assassination attempts against prominent Communist Party officials, and the various economic and political sanctions that constitute the ongoing blockade. The Association of Cuban Residents in Ireland “Ernesto Ché Guevara” condemns the interference of the United States embassy in the internal affairs of Cuba, whose heroic people finally achieved their independence and sovereignty in 1959.
At the same time, the Association demands the lifting of the blockade against our people maintained, precisely, by the country that this embassy represents.
The blockade and the unjust inclusion of Cuba on the List of Countries Sponsoring Terrorism directly affect all Cubans, wherever they live.
