The Cuban chief of mission participates in the first session of the new Lebanese Parliament.
The Cuban chief of mission, Jorge León Cruz, was present in the Lebanese hemicycle, where Nabih Berry was re-elected president of the Parliament, after obtaining 65 votes out of 128 deputies.
During the brief and dynamic session at the parliamentary seat in downtown Beirut, the deputies also elected Elias Bou Saab, of the Free Patriotic Current, as vice president.
The leader of the Lebanese Resistance Forces (Shiite AMAL Movement), Nahib Berry, has been re-elected for the seventh consecutive time since 1992 and will preside over the legislative body again during the 2022-2026 legislature.
This parliamentary election was held in accordance with the rules of procedure of the House and the Lebanese Constitution, which establish that the head of the legislature is reserved for a Shiite Muslim, the prime minister must be a Sunni Muslim and the president of the Republic must be a Maronite Christian.
