The role of Cuban women in Lebanon is highlighted
The head of the Cuban mission in Lebanon, Jorge León, highlighted in Lebanon the role of women in the conquests and achievements throughout 63 years of revolution.
Invited by the plenary session of the non-governmental organization Vision International Awareness (VIA), the diplomat highlighted the active participation of women in all sectors of Cuban society and their successes in areas such as culture, sports, science and medicine.
León underscored the social transformation process initiated by the Revolution since its origins with emphasis on the role of women and the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence.
In this sense, the Cuban Chargé d'Affaires also highlighted the creation in August 1960 of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) to articulate policies and programs in favor of the full exercise of equality and insertion in society.
Sharing figures with the VIA group, the head of the Antillean embassy pointed out that Cuban women represent 53.22 percent of the seats in Parliament, 60.5 percent of higher education graduates and 67.2 percent of technical and professional graduates.
On the legislative aspect, León shared with the audience that the 2019 Constitution showed a modern approach, enshrined the conquests and traced a horizon of more democracy, greater rights and the struggle for all possible justice.
On this subject, the diplomat expressed that the National Program for the Advancement of Women, approved in March 2021, is the culmination of many years of research and work of specialists from different sectors and entities, agglutinated and coordinated by the FMC.
During the session of questions and exchange with the participants, the Cuban representative gave details of the forthcoming presentation to the UN General Assembly of the Resolution condemning and demanding the end of the blockade imposed by the United States on the country for more than 60 years.
On the occasion, the Cuban diplomat expressed his gratitude for the international solidarity support received in favor of the struggle of the people against the blockade.
The activity promoted by Vision International Awareness included the exhibition of the Lebanese artist Nicole Karam inspired by the Cuban cohíbas.
Founded in 2018, the grouping brings together women from 22 countries representing the Middle East, Europe, America and Africa.
