Tribute paid in Liberia to Fidel Castro on the sixth anniversary of his passing to eternity.

Monrovia, November 25, 2022 - The Liberia-Cuba Friendship Association, students of the University of Liberia and friends of Cuba joined the Cuban Embassy in Monrovia to pay tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on the sixth anniversary of his passing into eternity.

During the commemoration of the Commander-in-Chief, the documentary "Anecdotes about Fidel" was screened and a discussion was held on the life, work, legacy and imprint of the man who fulfilled the dream of millions of Cubans to have a totally free, sovereign and independent homeland.

In their speeches, the participants thanked Fidel for what he had done for Cuba and the world and expressed their pride in being part of the ranks of the grateful. They highlighted the feelings of gratitude, fraternity and mutual support that characterized the Commander's ties with the countries of the African continent.

In her speech, the Cuban Head of Mission Mercedes L. Martínez Herrera also referred to the phrase "I am Fidel" and pointed out that among all the necessary slogans, when Cuba learned of the physical departure of its leader, this essential phrase appeared on which we have to interpret that those three immense words are a cry of combat in the face of the new times for humanity.

Diplomat Martínez Herrera said that, since the physical departure of the Commander-in-Chief, that emblematic phrase became the most representative sign of attachment to the Revolution, to the Homeland and to the meaning of being Cuban. He explained that

"I am Fidel" is not a mere slogan, but an idea of patriotic pride, full independence, dignity without concessions.

For so many reasons, to say "I am Fidel" is a commitment and a challenge for the Cuba of these times and those to come. Fidel is not here, but he is here. Entire generations of Cubans, our children and those to come, will know how to exalt his memory. His greatest merit is to have remained alive for his people. Cuba will always have Fidel; and Fidel will always have Cuba.

Fidel belongs to everyone. He belongs to an entire nation, he was a man who became a people, he became millions, and as an incomparable horseman he will continue to ride in front of this firm and solid caravan that is the Cuban nation.

Fidel maintained a special relationship and feelings of friendship and solidarity towards African peoples and nations, which had its supreme expression in the participation of Cuban troops in the struggles against racial oppression in Africa. It was precisely to an African nation where, in 1963, a Cuban medical brigade arrived for the first time on a permanent basis, thus beginning the long and satisfactory history of Cuban International Medical Collaboration.

I am Fidel!
