The director of the pan-Arab satellite news network Al Mayadeen, Ghassan Ben Jeddou, received from the Cuban president the award granted by the Council of State at the proposal of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.
The director of the pan-Arab satellite news network Al Mayadeen, Ghassan Ben Jeddou, praised Cuba's capacity to resist US aggressions and described the island as a beacon of dignity.
After receiving the Friendship Medal from the hands of Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the Republic, the Tunisian-Lebanese journalist said he felt immense love for Cuba and infinite admiration for its people, its leaders and its Revolution.
The Cuban Revolution is a school of values and principles to inspire many in the world, he said while participating in the annual awards ceremony for outstanding Cuban journalists, held at the José Martí National Library in Havana, on the occasion of National Press Day.
Ben Jeddou urged the young professionals of the word, and the Cuban youth in general, to defend the process of transformations promoted for more than six decades in that Island, harassed today by defamatory campaigns from the great centers of hegemonic power.
He stressed the willingness to accompany Cuba in its struggle in defense of its right to freedom, sovereignty and self-determination.
The Friendship Medal is a distinction granted by the Council of State at the proposal of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, ICAP, to foreigners with a trajectory of solidarity with the Caribbean nation and unconditional attachment to the defense of its Revolution.
The ceremony was attended by other leaders of the Government and the Communist Party of Cuba, as well as participants in the Patria International Colloquium, which concluded the day before at the Casa de las Americas, in Havana.
