The Cuba solidarity movement in India, led by its National Committee, organized a Chess tournament in memory of Che Guevara on the occasion of his 95th birth anniversary.
The tournament was held in about 10 cities in different states of the country, including Delhi, Kerala, Andra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharastra and Mombai. The tournament focused on youth and student participation. The inauguration was attended by leading political figures at the national and state levels, including members of Parliament, and Ministers and members of the State Legislative Assemblies.
In New Delhi, the tournament was held at one of the main educational centers in the country, Jawaharlal Nehru University. The meeting was attended by the Charge d'Affaires a.i. of the Cuban Embassy in India, Abel Aballe Despaigne; member of the Rajya Sabha, P Santhosh Kumar; Secretary General of the All India Peace Organization (AIPSO) and member of the Board of the National Cuba Solidarity Committee, Arun Kumar; and officials of the Venezuelan Embassy in India, as well as leaders of student and youth organizations.
The Cuban diplomat thanked the Cuban Solidarity Movement in India, particularly its National Committee and AIPSO, for organizing this event, which pays tribute to the spirit of solidarity of Che and the Cuban Revolution. He highlighted the historic ties of friendship between Cuba and India, as well as the numerous expressions of solidarity of the Indian people towards our country, which have been essential in the struggle for more than 60 years of the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people against the unjust and criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government.
