Addis Ababa, December 24, 2023. The members of the State Mission of Cuba in Ethiopia participated this Sunday in the sixth Annual Assembly of the Credit and Savings Association of the Ethiopians of the city of Adama. This Association is made up of more than 285 members who make up a Savings and Credit Cooperative that undertakes social aid projects among its participants.
The Cuban ambassador to Ethiopia, Jorge Lefebre Nicolás, in his opening remarks of the activity, thanked the invitation to the Annual Assembly of that Friendship Association and expressed his recognition of the economic work and aid to its members offered by it.
The Cuban diplomat took the opportunity to highlight the steps of progress made in recent months in the strengthening of relations between Ethiopia and Cuba, among which he highlighted, the meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen with the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in Havana, regarding the Summit of the G77 and China last September; the meetings between Cuban President and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at the BRICS Summit held in Johannesburg last August and at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) that took place in Dubai, from November 30 to December 12.
On the other hand, the Cuban ambassador highlighted the recent visit of Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa to Addis Ababa and the meeting he held with a representation of the Association of Friendship between the Peoples of Ethiopia and Cuba of which he said: "For him it is always a great moment, a great emotion, to meet with the Ethiopians who through the years studied in Cuba and we really did that in the Memorial that we remember the friendship between Cuba and Ethiopia and that also venerates the Cubans who fell in the war 45 years ago."
